Badlands National Park; if the name alone doesn't inspire you to visit, then perhaps this frame from photographer Theodore Scott will.
Inspired to get out and travel immediately after completing his college courses, Scott chose to skip his own graduation for a weeklong tour of the park. His takeaway? “..I crawled out of my tent most mornings to see bison scattered around the landscape. It was worth missing my graduation.”
Badlands is one of more than 100 national parks that will be opening their gates to the public free of charge this weekend, August 14-15. So what are you waiting for? Summer is almost over! Get out there, take pictures, and submit them to our Flickr Pool to be considered as our next Photo of the Day.
Summer’s rapidly coming to a close and unfortunately so is the “Phanatic Around Town” photo submission contest.
Keep submitting your best photos for the chance to win free Philly baseball gear and remember, the stakes are higher than ever as the Phillies will be using select photos during an on-air game broadcast.

After a few weeks in public preview, we’re rolling out the new Flickr photo page to 100% of the Flickrverse. Our effort in this release focuses on two areas that will continue to make Flickr the very best place for your photos.
Display: New look and feel to showcase your photos bigger and more Flickr-er
Interaction: New and redesigned features to improve browsing, discovery and communication with members about their photos on Flickr.
Since June 23, over 800,000 members have helped us test the new page. Discussions and suggestions in the preview group have also complemented usability studies, surveys, statistical studies and other feedback to ready the photo page for today’s launch. Thank you for your time and effort.
So what’s new?
Bigger photo: We’ve increased the default view size by 28%. Your cameras will be happy that your photos now take advantage of increasingly larger and higher resolution displays! We’ve also built a new lightbox feature. Click on any photo or use the magnifying glass icon to browse through large photos on a dark background. Just you and photos — no distractions.
Navigation: Getting from one photo to the next is faster and easy. Move forward and back with ever-present navigation buttons above each photo. Want to get from one context to the next? Go from your photostream to sets to groups to any number of ways that photos are organized on Flickr is simple via the upgraded film strip on the photo sidebar. Click on the title of any film strip to switch contexts. Preview five photos at a time within the context of your choice, too.
The story: Your photos already carry the narrative elements of who, what, where, when and how whenever you upload them to Flickr. Browse Flickr and you’ll see stories within stories — photos within photostreams within groups or any kinds of combinations. So we’ve made it easier to find when a photo was taken, it’s location, camera/exif info and your name in one location to the right of the image. Along with the title and description and we think that photosharing will increasingly become story-sharing.
We’ve also centralized things you can do with a photo in the Actions menu above the photo, highlighted the copyright, privacy and sharing settings on each photo and provided more visibility for the discussions that happen around photos. In addition to all this, the page is faster! The code that creates the page is leaner and better optimized for fast page loads.
We hope you’ll take a spin and discover all the other new features we’ve added — they’re quite lovely! For more information, you can check out the FAQ or join the discussion in the help forum.

Justin Bieber has already tweeted us a small taste of his upcoming appearance as Jason McCann on “CSI”, but we’ve got our grubby little hands on two new pics!
Check ‘em out!
On the premiere episode, Justin plays a troubled teen (cue the handcuff photos) who “is faced with a terrible decision regarding his only brother.”
CSI’s executive producer Carol Mendelsohn said, “He did a really good job. Is he a good kid stuck in a bad situation or is he a bad kid hiding behind the cutes?’ He’s caught in the middle. The kid is in some trouble. When your brother is out looking to kill cops, you’re not going anywhere.”
Justin was said to be having a blast on the set of the show. He pranked the executive producer by locking him in the closet. He tweeted, “Amazing day … excited for you guys to get to watch it … and yes I did prank the EP of the show … somebody got locked in the closet.
”
Too funny! If after the show premieres, you haven’t gotten enough of your Bieber fix, then worry not. He’ll be returning in February for another character arc.

As everyone in the country who cares about anything cinematic, televisual or games-wise knows, 3D is the latest big craze to sweep the world.
And while there isn’t exactly a huge amount of 3D content available currently, an obvious solution springs to mind while we wait for the technology to become more widespread (or everyone gets a headache and gives up).
That solution being – film your own three dimensional footage to display on that shiny new 3DTV set. A process which will be possible thanks to Panasonic, which has just unveiled the first 3D camcorder to be made available to the average consumer.
The Panasonic SDT750 features a 3D conversion lens which can be attached to allow shooting in three dimensions. The camcorder records right and left eye images simultaneously, which can then be combined to produce a 3D image on a 3DTV, although the downside is the resolution will only be 960 x 1080 due to that split image.
Even so, the results should be pretty impressive for home-shot footage, although don’t expect to rival James Cameron just yet.
Without the conversion lens, the SDT750 is capable of shooting conventional full 1080p HD 60fps video in AVCHD, and the Leica Dicomar lens boasts a 12x optical zoom.
It also has some other interesting and groovy features, such as time lapse recording, which can take a ten minute sunset scene and reduce it down to ten seconds of accelerated footage (just like in the wildlife documentaries).
“Panasonic has developed the world’s first consumer 3D camcorder, the HDC-SDT750 – creating a 3D ecosystem available for consumers in the home,” commented Chris Rice, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic.
An October launch is expected. The UK pricing is still to be confirmed, although State-side the Panasonic SDT750 will set you back some $1400.
Incidentally, the camcorder’s naming convention is sailing a little close to the wind – it’s very nearly the Panasonic STD, which would be a very unfortunate moniker (we guess you’d just have to remember to use protection on that 3D lens).
Story link: Panasonic SDT750 3D camcorder unveiled
TOKYO — The problem of what to watch on a 3-D TV will be yours to solve with Panasonic's camcorder for families to film birthdays, baby's first walk and weddings, all in 3-D.
Numerous global electronics companies are racing 3-D televisions into the shops, hoping a revival of interest in the technology sparked by blockbuster movies such as the sci-fi epic “Avatar” will translate into the public wanting the 3-D experience at home. But the relative scarcity of three dimensional content is a stumbling block for the products catching on.
The whole camcorder and lens setup, shown Wednesday, starts at about 170,000 yen ($2,000), far more affordable than professional 3-D camcorders, which have been the only types available up to now for 3-D filming. The camera looks much like a regular digital camcorder but needs a slightly bigger 3-D “conversion” lens that's sold separately.
The 3-D camcorders go on sale in Japan Aug. 20, and will be available in overseas markets later this year, according to the Osaka-based maker of Viera TVs and Lumix digital cameras.
Executive Officer Shiro Nishiguchi said Panasonic sees this year as the opening year for “the 3-D era.” Panasonic has led in introducing 3-D products this year, now offering eight 3-D TV models, three 3-D recorders and four designs in 3-D glasses.
“Content you create yourself is going to be what you want to watch, and so it's going to be a killer content,” Nishiguchi told reporters at a Tokyo hall.
The 3-D camcorder is expected to help 3-D products for homes spread quickly, he said, adding that Panasonic will start selling a 3-D lens for digital cameras for still photos later this year.
Panasonic demonstrated how the camcorder can film a girl playing on swings, and had reporters check out the film through 3-D glasses.
The image was colorful, clear and 3-D but, as a homemade movie, not quite Avatar.
Panasonic said 3-D footage shot on its camcorder can be watched on 3-D TVs from rivals such as Sony Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co.
The technology behind 3-D works by sending a different image to the right eye and the left eye, just like the human brain constructs an illusion of depth and perspective with images that come in from the left eye and the right eye.
Although some 3-D technology doesn't require special glasses, the one shown Wednesday requires special 3-D glasses.
The case for 3D just got stronger with Panasonic announcing the release of the world's first 3D consumer camera for the AVCHD standard. Panasonic has positioned itself at the forefront of 3D camcorder technology and this latest news is significant because previously available professional 3D models are far more expensive, and as a result have not made it into the hands of the general public. The company's new HDC-SDT750 camcorder is likely to be the first of many 3D cameras to reach home movie makers.
Using a conversion lens that comes with the camcorder, 3D images can be recorded, ready for playback on your 3D display. It should be noted that the movies can be viewed on screens from competing companies such as Sony or Samsung as well, so you're not locked in to the Panasonic brand.
And while some other companies like Fujifilm and Aiptek are experimenting with 3D that does not require glasses, this camera will need 3D glasses for viewing.
The most striking thing about Panasonic's new camcorder is the size. It's absolutely tiny. Remove the 3D conversion lens and it's even more so. It certainly looks like a comfortable camera to operate, whether you're in 3D or regular mode.
Other specs of the SDT750 include:
Surprisingly this was Panasonic's second 3D-related announcement of the day. The company released yet another world's first when announcing a 3D interchangeable twin lens compatible with the Lumix G Micro System.
Consumers who shelled out for expensive 3D TVs (perhaps from Panasonic as well) will now have more content to watch if they opt to buy this camcorder too. The problem is, they just need to make it themselves. There's still a bit of a catch 22 with 3D displays, as no one is producing content until consumers have the hardware to view it. But early adopters of 3D TVs are, for now, stuck with little to watch. And while some providers such as YouTube have experimented with 3D video and broadcasters like Sky are moving into the space, 3D content is still not very plentiful.
The SDT750 will go on sale in Japan on August 20th with a price tag of around 170,000 yen (or just under $2000).

Lets face it, this is a netbook, this is a great web browsing, checking email and writing Amazon reviews. If you are looking for a laptop. . . Take your laptop. Not perfect, but less than $ 300 hard to beat. I also used the NB 305-410 Netbook Toshiba and Toshiba, as well as a bit ‘thicker, and Toshiba touch pad is slightly bigger (not better, but bigger), not much of a difference. One thing is for sure better than the Samsung speakers (I found the Toshiba hard to hear, even at full volume). The Samsung has a few strokes of the keyboard, but I really love you especially like the “feel” the keys vs Toshiba. Seem to connect equally well in both the wireless router (Net Gear 2000 “router” N), and had no problem with the closure of a strong signal throughout the house. Both netbooks already painfully long initial setup / registration number, difficult not only long and slow. I found them to be reasonably fast Internet browsing, when you have deleted all the unnecessary software pre-installed, and ditched the Explorer browser, and moved to Mozilla Firefox. They live streaming MLB games, and while there is a small but significant delay of each are both well managed. Do not get to read the negative comments about Windows 7 launches. The netbook goes well, you remember, this is not the notebook netbook. Yes, it would be nice to change the desktop background, but it is one of the few features that most will notice. This is fairly intuitive, seems to be working well.

This is a high-net-book for all your needs. Upgrade to 2 GB of RAM, remove all the bloatware and Fly! There is a great car on the road. I installed the Microsoft Security funds. The battery is very good (~ 4-5 hours). I took it for about $ 279, which is a great price, this netbook. I recommend this. One of the best netbook out there on the market.

I have taken some Pics in the last couple of months – please tell me what you think:
Remember when it used to take days to get film developed? Ever had an entire roll of film printed and were disappointed to find out half of your photos were blurry? Have you ever forgotten to pick up your photos because the wait was so long? You may even have rolls of film in a box that never got developed.
These days we have the ability to easily take hundreds of photos, select specific photos to be printed, and then enhance the quality by removing red-eye, cropping, or even add a fun border! Prices to print 4×6 and 8×10 photos have become so inexpensive and most photo kiosks supply instantly printed photos.
If you are one of millions who have the exciting capability of taking photos with your cell phone, you are now in for a real surprise! Take as many photos as your heart desires, because I am fixing to share with you a wonderful advancement in getting your photos printed directly from your camera phone with ease!
As you look at your camera phone and wonder how on earth you are supposed to get those photos out of your phone and printed, please know that you are not alone! I bought a camera phone that features a removable memory card, but found that unless I have the card adapter with me, I can't use the instant photo kiosk to print my photos—or can I?
Thanks to a wonderful employee at Wal-Mart, a little secret was revealed to me last summer. If your cell phone has blue tooth capability you can send your photos from your phone straight to the machine!
When beginning the upload process at a kiosk station, the screen should ask you what type of media you have your digital photos on. Depending on the model, it should give you the wireless upload option. Your phone can then search for the machine and send the photos you have selected. Now you can print all of those cute pictures without a care!
Remember, you can also use a compact disc (CD), flash drive, or memory card to upload photos to the kiosk, but wireless tends to be the easiest method for those who have camera phones that do not feature a removable memory card.
Wait! The fun doesn't stop here! Choose wallet sized photos for grandpa and an 8×10 for grandma or a collage of several photos all in one. There are many exciting and colorful templates to choose from. Experiment, be creative and just have fun! Not only can you print your photos, but you can also order other types of merchandise showcasing your favorite photograph! Mouse pads, tee shirts, key chains, and mugs can generally be ordered from a retail kiosk Christmas cards and calendars have also become a favorite.
You can find photo kiosk stations near the picture development department in almost any Walgreen's, CVS Pharmacy, Target, & Wal-Mart.
